Review

This review applies to version 1.3 The latest version of this software will soon be reviewed by our informers.

Snes9x is a Super-Nintendo emulator. This is one of the best programs to play emulated SNES games on a Windows-driven PC (although this one also supports Linux). This is the main competitor of zSnes and it does have a lot to ask for. There are newer versions of Snes9x, and although they include several new features they lack in one thing: the sound. It was noticeable that after version 1.39a there was some work done on the sound engine. Although many didn't noticed the difference, the SNES owners actually did. The version 1.3x does emulate the original SNES sound, and if you still keep your SNES you can try 1.3x and other versions and the difference will be heard. In other areas Snes9x excels as well. The ROMs are played in a very stable way, experiencing no crashes with several ROMs. You have many graphic resolutions and options, which can help you run either in windowed mode or in full screen mode. Snes9x also lets you play with another player, which is a great bonus. Snes9x is one of the best SNES emulators on the Internet now.
  • Great emulator.
  • Excellent sound.
  • Stable.
  • Lacks features of newer versions.
